This is my first Janet Tronstad read. I picked it up because of the knitting theme. I was a little concerned when I started reading and found the story was centered around cancer patients. I thought all no I will cry and cry but as I continued to read I found strength in these girls stories.

I love the use of quotes and what they meant to the group of girls.

I will definitely be looking for other books in this series as well as other reads by Ms Tronstad.

A Wonerful Tale of Hope

The book first seemed to start slowly for me, but by the 3rd chapter, I was hooked. I felt that Carly and her friends were real. I want to hang out with them. The story of Mary and Joseph was woven into this book so well that I didn’t even realize until the end that the book was published by a Christian publisher. And that is very refreshing because I will happily recommend the story to amy non-Christian Friend’s and then be glad to discuss my faith with them. I look forward to more stories fro the Dropped Stitches Sisters.

{Merry CHRISTmas everyone! Every Monday, Wednesday & Friday in honor of our Savior’s birth there’ll be a new Christmas book review! With a couple giveaways sprinkled in, it’s going to be so much fun! Let’s start!}

About this book:

“My Yuletide Resolution: Stop Living a Lie With Christmas coming, I, Carly Winston, know it's time to make changes in my life. I've spent way too much time hiding my family's past--and letting opportunities pass me by. Not even my boyfriend, Randy, or my friends in The Sisterhood of the Dropped Stitches know about my secret shame. I'm hoping my new role as Mary in the local nativity play will build my confidence and help me to open up to those I care about. My evolving relationship with Randy--and my future--are riding on my ability to share my heart.”

Series: This book is part of the Love Inspired mini-series “Dropped Stitches”. It is book #2 of four. (I haven’t read the other ones.)

Spiritual Content- Luke 1:37 and Matthew 1:23 are both written at the beginning of the book; ‘H’s are capital when talking about God; Carly’s believes to take things slow and says “God been around forever so He can wait a bit.”; She’s not really a Christ follower but auditions for a part in a Nativity play(set in the Great Depression), landing the role of Mary’s understudy; Thus, leads Carly to Christ and learning (and wondering) a lot about Mary and her role in the Very Important Event; Carly’s friend Marilee is semi-new Christian and Carly sees her Pray; Mid-way through the book, Carly starts reading the New Testament and starts thinking that it might be real; Church going.

Negative Content- Carly’s dad was an alcoholic & in and out of rehab.
*Note: Carly and the Sisterhood all met when they all were going through Cancer & chemo, just a warning for those sensitive to the topic.

Sexual Content- Eleven not-detailed kisses and a semi-detailed kiss; Boyfriends & Crushes; When Carly was just getting sick, her mother told people that in was in the hospital because she got mono from kissing a guy; Randy offers Carly an apartment which makes the Sisterhood think that he’s living there too (which he isn’t), quote “And Randy either wants to be my knight in shining amour and rescue me or he is expecting something of a physical nature in return for a place to stay and he’s the last person I should trust. I wish I knew for sure what his motive is.”; There are, of course, mentions of Mary the The Virgin Birth; Love, falling in love & the emotions.

My personal Rating- Two Stars (and a half)
{ Lowered ratings because of all the kisses. }

These ratings are for girls who like those Christmas Hallmark movies, or maybe the Inspirational channel? I don’t know, something like that. ;) I prefer predicable books over predicable movies, so my rating is lower. But, then, all the ratings are lowered because of the Boyfriend thing.

SUMMARY: My Yuletide Resolution: Stop Living a Lie
With Christmas coming, I, Carly Winston, know it's time to make changes in my life. I've spent way too much time hiding my family's past—and letting opportunities pass me by. Not even my boyfriend, Randy, or my friends in The Sisterhood of the Dropped Stitches know about my secret shame. I'm hoping my new role as Mary in the local nativity play will build my confidence and help me to open up to those I care about. My evolving relationship with Randy—and my future—are riding on my ability to share my heart.

REVIEW: When I first started this book, I didn't think I was going to like it. It is written in an unusual format as Carly and her 3 friends in The Sisterhood of the Dropped Stitches (all of whom became friends when going through chemo for cancer as teenagers but are now in their early 20's) reveal their feelings throughout the story in a group journal. But as the story developed and Carly became involved in the nativity play, I really liked the story line. A young unknown playwright has developed a depression era version of the Nativity and Carly becomes an understudy for Mary. As she grows in her knowledge of Mary and Joseph, the growth and development as well as her understanding of herself and of Mary make for a very thought provoking story.

FAVORITE QUOTES: "Are you really thinking about this Christian stuff?" I ask.
He nods in the dark. "Trying to figure it out. That Joseph was some guy you know."
"Yeah" I say. It makes me feel good that Randy is learning from Joseph and I am learning from Mary.

The perfect gift for any female cancer survivor!!!

Carly Winston and her four best friends are part of a support group that is approaching their fifth Christmas cancer free. Carly has a secret she's kept from the group that makes her feel less than genuine. With Christmas fast approaching, Carly gets to understudy the part of Mary in the local community theatre Christmas play. Not a believer, she's fascinated by the role and begins researching the life of Mary. Her friend Randy is running lines with her and is quickly becoming more than a friend. This is a touching story, plumbing the area of family secrets and how isolating they can be. I didn't get to it during the holidays and it made a great post-Christmas read.

Janet Tronstad's 2007 A Dropped Stitches Christmas surprised me. I didn't think I'd want to read a book about young women who had survived cancer. The BIG C can be depressing. But not so in this book of honesty and triumph. With the advent of ereaders, it becomes possible to resurrect books that have disappeared from store shelves. I've read Janet Tronstad's Dry Creek romances and yes, this story is definitely her flavor of romance. But I was enchanted by the first person narrative from the heroine and her friends. Chicklit may have died down but this author shows she can handle the subgenre with elegance and style. I loved her scrumptious hero and the beautiful but hesitant heroine. If you want a really touching Christmas read, this one's for you! Loved it!

# 2 in Sisterhood Series The Sisterhood started with the members were in their teens and dealing with various cancers with the help of a counselor they started what they named The Sisterhood of Dropped Stitches. God had dropped some stitches as they were made and with the help of the doctors He was putting them back together again. This story deals with Carly. It was hard getting into the book but when Carly was given the Understudy role of Mary in a play............set in the depression, and she starts to see how Mary might think and learn more of Mary's store. Carly becomes interested in the church. The Depression nativity story is well pictured. As the book got to the end I really was happy that I had finished it.

i liked this book, i like this author, but ...

i must admit, the style this book was written in could be a bit confusing at times. i'm not sure i liked the style itself, despite enjoying the storyline itself.

i think i continued to enjoy the story more so primarily because of how the main characters all banned together to support each other, and i wish more people did that. made me a bit "homesick" for some old friends of mine, too.

because of the writing style, tho, and how difficult i found it to follow at times, if this book is part of a series, now sure if i'd go after the others in the series to read. i'd have to think on that one

I loved this holiday installment in the Sisterhood series. Carly is a wonderful character that I could really relate to, and her growth during this story was endearing and encouraging. It was very interesting to read about the lives of a group of five young cancer survivors; this is the second book I have read in the series, and my favorite so far. I highly recommend this book as an uplifting Christmas story.

overall it was a pretty enjoyable read . i enjoyed the characters and it was an easy read but as it got towards the end it became a little bit to much into the god concept , not that im against god but i felt a little forced idk personal thing i guess . loved the romance of randy and carly though ! good book but probably not a reread .

Carly and the rest of the sisterhood has survived cancer. The girls are trying to move on with their lives, It is suggested that Carly try out for a play for her "Big Break." What she finds as the understudy for Mary in the Nativity play is much better.

Yet another book from my Mom. This one was a little more subtle with the Christian angle. It was a quick read and enjoyable.
