If someone had told me twenty years ago that I'd be the author of 20 books, I'd have fallen off my chair. I’m still amazed to see my novels on Goodreads, Amazon, and occasionally the shelves at Walmart.

More than anything, I delight in telling stories that tackle tough issues with faith and compassion. One my most challenging books, Together With You, won the RWA FHL Readers Choice Award for Best Contemporary Romance. I was equally thrilled when The Two of Us made it to the shelves in Target as part of the "Target Recommends" program.

Before writing contemporaries, I wrote westerns for Harlequin Historical and Love Inspired Historical. The LIHs are clean reads. The Harlequin Historicals (no brown banner like the LIHs) were written for the mainstream market. They have Christian themes but gritty content. Some readers won’t care for the language and love scenes. (If you want to know why I wrote them, the story is on my website.)

My two most recent books are independently published. When He Found Me and A Gift to Cherish are a mix of romance and women’s fiction and part of The Road to Refuge series. These stories are particularly close to my heart.

My husband and I now make our home in Lexington, Kentucky, but I’m a California girl at heart. I hope you enjoy my books! For more information, visit https://www.victoriabylin.com

I found this for $3 on the Mardel clearance shelf and loved the cover...so I grabbed it, since I'd heard good things about the author. I really, really loved the story! Both Kate and Nick have a past—Nick is recently saved; Kate has been wandering in her faith—but it is handled very well on the author's part, and I never felt like she gave a sense of either condonement or condemnation for their past choices. Just "that's past; I'm a Christian now; I have to fight to make the right choices and stay pure now." I really admired that aspect of the story. It's a deeply heartfelt tale of what faith and family really mean, and how to find true fulfillment in life. The grandmother was a great side character, and I loved the whole thread about the California Condors.

Sweet and enticing tale of love and belief!

Lauren Kate, an American author of Fallen series has been quoted as:
“Sometimes beautiful things come into our lives out of nowhere. We can't always understand them, but we have to trust in them. I know you want to question everything, but sometimes it pays to just have a little faith.”

Until I Found You by Victoria Bylin is a pretty amazing Christian romance, and for any first time believer in Christianity, this book might stand out to be an useful guide! And for the rest, be it for a believer or not, this book might make you fall in love with the idea of faith and trust! This is not my first time to read any Christian book, but believe me, Christian books are quite inspirational and has the power to make you see things with a more wider perspective.

Victoria Bylin, a Christian author, has penned down this tale of love and the journey of a young man and woman's road to belief for the first time in the Californian hilly backdrop. I feel lucky to read this book, provided to me by the author herself! Thank You so much!

I absolutely loved how Kate and Nick are destined to meet each other. One hanging from her life from the edge of a dangerous cliff and the other to her rescue. But both have made some promises to themselves of not falling in love, but once you're destined to fall in love, no power in this world can change that and evidently, Kate and Nick couldn't deny that inevitable attraction between them. And after saving Kate for one time, it becomes a habit for Nick to rescue her a lot of times. But the strong chord of attraction between them pulls them towards each other and finally lighting up the whole book with their undeniable chemistry. And their journey to the road of faith is really quite inspirational.

If I try to point out any negative aspect in this book, then I'll fail, since, I didn't find a single flaw into it. The plot has a good pace; sometimes stories to the road of Christianity can be so captivating. And the authors grip on her primary characters, Kate and Nick is really very strong. From being flawed to clueless to committing mistakes in the past, Kate and Nick is the perfect epitome to portray them as the reformed Christian struggling on their road to faith and trust. Along with their journey to the road of faith, their love story too begins in the same way, from being confused to strongly attracted, to finally opening up to themselves. The best thing is the dialogues, which are sometimes so emotional that I found my eyes welling up a lot of times, to making me smile, and sometimes I found them quite stirring. Even Kate's grandmother, Leona, manages to draw a mark upon the minds of the readers. Leona's strong sense of belief in Christianity to leading her grand-daughter to the road to faith is quite motivating and assuring. The location is more than perfect to stir up romantic emotions among the readers and the log cabins add a bonus pleasure for the readers.

This book is perfect to curl up it with a mug of hot tea on a quite gloomy, cloudy monsoon afternoon.

Having never even heard of Victoria Bylin, I did not know what to expect. I wanted the book mainly because of its cover (it’s gorgeous front and back!). The author has a way of making her characters and situations extremely realistic. This book would probably be really good for new Christians, as it deals with a lot of questions they would experience. Nick Sheridan had only been a Christian for six months at the beginning of the story. Kate was just beginning to question all she thought she believed in.

Until I Found You also deals with humanism, or pleasing yourself in the place of God and relying and trusting yourself more than anything else in life. The author dealt with the subject in a realistic, accurate way. The author also did an excellent job of portraying false philosophies and Christian-living side by side. The results were very different and insightful. What will happen if you live a life to please only yourself? What will happen if you live a life to please only God? These were the main questions with very different answers.

Nick and Kate kissed far too early in the story. They had known each other only a week and had not made any commitments to one another. I also found that they both thought it was acceptable to drink wine and champagne in public settings. Perhaps some Christians think it’s all right, but it is not what I believe.

Despite these issues, I really enjoyed the book. One thing I noticed about the author’s writing style is that she was really good at building tension is single scenes and letting the reader down gently after the adrenaline rush was over. It was a satisfying, fresh read told from Nick’s, Kate’s, and Leona’s point of view. Leona was Kate’s grandmother. By adding Leona’s point of view in, the book flowed even more smoothly and quickly than it would have without it. I will definitely consider reading something else by Victoria Bylin if ever I have the chance.

I give Until I Found You 4 out of 5 stars.

Victoria Bylin has written a book about a contemporary knight in shining armor, one of the most engaging heroes I've read in a while, and the woman who tempts him, a new Christian, to break his vow not to date for a year. Fresh from a broken relationship, the heroine is torn between her career and caring for her grandmother recovering from a stroke. Neither is looking for a relationship but the best things happen while we are making other plans.

In addition to the realistic romance with all it's temptations, joys and misunderstandings, the author shows a genuine understanding of the toll of strokes on the victim and family, as well as the loneliness and regrets that hit many a thirty-something. Her characters have seen the world and found it doesn't hold what they need most. The beautiful scenery of California, rare birds and an engaging grandmother with her own story to tell only add to the richness of this page turner. Can't wait for Victoria Bylin's next contemporary.

Relatable characters in the midst of realistic struggles anchor this incredible story. If you like Real with a capital R in your fiction, this is the book for you. The action packed opening (which is also symbolic of Nick and Kate's relationship) took my breath away.

I love the way their stories unfold -- gritty, raw, but inevitably hope-filled. By the time we meet him, Nick has made a radical life change and he's making valiant attempts to prevent a repetition of past mistakes. Loved that about him. Absolutely flawed, but knowing he can be better by the grace of God. Kate, on the other hand, is a lost soul, yearning to fill the emptiness inside with all the wrong things. We live her struggle right along with her and get to break out in the Alleluia chorus when she finally 'gets' it...but not without a lot of angst-riddled moments along the way.

Probably the most authentic fictional 'coming to Christ story' I've ever read. These are real people with messy lives and conflicting desires. Kate in particular, wants absolute control in everything. She's scared of letting go, trusting God. I can totally relate to that. The inspirational thread doesn't dominate the story though, rather it lifts it up as it completes diverse lives.

And a side note: Loved Kate's grandma, Leona. Her story is honest and triumphant in the midst of all manners of affliction. She's the epitome of "I have fought a good fight. I have finished the course. I have kept the faith." And there's more realism there because as faith-filled as Leona is, she hasn't met all her challenges with complete grace and trust.

Simply an awesome read!

Victoria Bylin has created a realistic world with characters the reader will relate to. I can especially relate to the heroine, Kate Darby, who deals with the fear of what-ifs. Nick is a new Christian and focused on building a life completely different than the one he lived before he came to faith. There's an instant connection between these two. However, they both hold back from pursuing a relationship. Kate doesn't share Nick's faith. And Nick has made a pledge to remain single for a year. We get to know Kate's grandmother, Leona, who struggles after a stroke leaves her unable to speak and facing physical challenges. The unique descriptions bring the quaint town of Meadows, CA alive and give the characters depth. Great read!

Until I Found You by Victoria Bylin
Kate Darby's mantra is to enjoy life one day at a time. She enjoys her work and living in the city. When Leona Darby, her grandmother, becomes ill Kate heads to the small mountain town of Meadows to take care of her and help run the small newspaper her grandfather started. She suddenly finds her life having more twists and turns than the mountain highways.

Nick Sheridan isn't proud of his past. He had a bestseller book about his old life, his hedonistic life. One night on Mount Abel had changed all of that. He became a Christian and promised God he would stay date-free for one year. He still struggled to lose all those old habits. His struggle became a bit harder when Leona's beautiful granddaughter came to town.

Leona Darby was ready to die, but she was still needed on earth. She had to tell Kate about the condors. One morning while she poured her heart out to God in prayer, she told Him she would do whatever it would take to help Kate, she had no clue God would take it so literally.

A page turner. I could not put this book down until the end. It was so true life. The struggles of leaving old lives behind, of giving up control of one's life to an unseen God, of having the right people around you to help guide you. Or, to follow the wrong people. The questions of why God allows bad things happen. Learning to depend and trust God even when life isn't full of roses, because there will always still be thorns.

In the beginning, I really liked this book; by its completion, I respectfully loved this book. Respected because, what could have been a very predictable story morphed into something entirely different. The raw emotion and realism exhibited by the two main characters was very refreshing and took me completely by surprise.

Kate Darby and Nick Sheridan have much in common; they love and have loved the "high life"; living for accolades, recognition and shallow happiness. When Nick Sheridan's life is completely transformed by his conversion experience; he becomes much more comfortable with "simple", quiet, and unassuming; vowing to give up dating relationships for a year while he gets used to his new life as a believer. However, when Nick literally rescues the beautiful, confusing Kate Darby off the side of a mountain, he begins running a marathon in patience.

Kate Darby is at a crossroads. Talented, determined and emotionally fragile, Kate is at odds with the life she thought she wanted to live. Just when she thinks that she could be happy running her grandmother's small local newspaper, Kate is offered the chance of a lifetime as an advertisement executive. Actually she is offered two chances of a lifetime and it takes a multitude of prayers, a grandmother's journal, and a beautiful, scarred condor to help her make the right decision.

"Until I Found You" is a wonderful book!

5 stars out of 5 given to Until I Found You. I do not think I have read a book by Victoria Bylin before, but I know I will be looking for more of her novels. This one is a contemporary novel and I loved how she wove in the stories of the almost extinct birds, the condors. They actually play an integral part in the lives of both Nick and Kate. Victoria writes a page turning novel of Kate and the issues and life styles that threaten to suck her under. We do not all have the same choices facing us today, but we do all make millions of choices each day -what to wear, what we will eat or drink, what we will do, but none are so important as the ones involving trust and love, selfishness or being unselfish. I cheered with Kate as she learned about the birds, I cried as she faced another setback with Leona's health, but each page I read was delightful and the truths given will stick with me. Definitely I would urge you to read this one this summer.

Just as I was finding my balance from the dramatic prologue, then Chapter One hit. Talk about a cliff-hanger! Victoria Bylin knows how to get a reader's attention.

I really enjoyed the characters in this story. Kate Darby has to put her high-powered advertising job on hold while her grandmother recovers from her stroke. Glamorous starlet Eve, her agency's biggest customer, has taken a personal interest in Kate and isn't happy with the competition for her attention. Bylin does a great job with Eve's characterization. She reminded me more of the snake in the garden, than Eve.

And I loved Nick Sheridan. He's such an earnest man. A new believer, he knows just how easy it'd be to fall back into his old ways. He's trying hard to sacrifice for God, but isn't sure how much God requires of him.

You'll be rooting for Nick and Kate in this touching romance that deals with real-life faith issues.

I loved Until I Found You. The story is told in 3 viewpoints: the heroine, hero and the heroine's grandmother.

I most appreciated the frankness of the grandmother who didn't make light of struggles she had in her life. Each of these caused her to trust God more and more, but NONE of them gave her the warm fuzzies.

I loved the thread of the struggle to help the California condors escape extinction and the hero's struggle to embrace chastity, a concept almost completely lost into today's culture. I found the reason for this completely believable.

I also felt the heroine's character was very believable. Things happen in every life that shape for good or ill. But the message in this book is that God can heal every heart that opens to him. A very good thing to remember.

First, let me say that I really really really LOVED this honest & realistic look at two new Christians trying to figure out to live out the raw reality of their changed hearts. Tough decisions, commitments that are difficult to keep, pivotal circumstances that lead you to a crisis of belief. And in the end - not a "happily ever after" maybe but a "joy endures"... which is what we should all be seeking as daughters of Jesus.

Second, this line: "Nick Sheridan had the posture of a soldier, the ease of a cowboy, and the daring of a pirate." Aaaaaand just like that, I fall headlong into my latest crush on a fictional character :)

So, the book starts out as a typical girl in distress, guy shows up and is her knight in shining armor and saves the day (more than once!), it quickly grows into so much more. There's depth to the characters, a story line that just has you turning page and after page and a beautiful weaving of faith
into a romance that sizzles with chemistry right from the start.

The saying goes, “don’t judge a book by its cover,” however I confess, my interest in this novel stemmed purely from being attracted to its polished, yet beautifully unrefined cover design. It seemed the perfect portrait of a genuine moment of love, which is what made it stand out. After that, I found the synopsis sounded equally charming which made me happy since I’m a big fan of contemporary romance. We begin by journeying with Kate Darby back to her grandmother, Leona’s small hometown of Meadow after she gets a heart-stopping phone call that her grandmother has had a stroke. A woman who likes to be in control of her life and enjoy order to it, Kate is not prepared to deal with the change coming her way, particularly when she meets Nick Sheridan. Nick’s past is one full of skeletons and is a life lived he isn’t proud of. Now, six months after giving his life to Christ, Nick is taking a year off from dating and is content to try and sell his new book while running Leona’s small newspaper during her leave. Rescuing Kate from a near-death experience put the two of them on a collision course of trust, friendship… and attraction. But with his vow to stay away from dating and Kate’s non-existent faith, their fledging relationship comes up against more than one complication.

In storytelling, it’s exciting for the reader to see or pull out parallels – particularly those that have a spiritual bent, because it amps the story comprehension and can be a beautiful way to pay homage to the faith it’s representing. The prose of Until I Found You definitely uses a recurring theme to solidify the romance angle and for me, it was a bit too parallel heavy for things to read smoothly. That being said, once a reader realizes what this theme is meant to convey to the importance of the story, and if you understand that, then the book picks up from there. Unlike most of its peers, there is a lot of emphasis on the new Christian because both of its characters are either distrusting of God or have only recently given their life to Him. Because of this, the story is an encourager that doesn’t shy away from the truth of Christianity. Too often, we think that by being a Christian, life’s troubles and mysteries fade leaving us “protected.” This isn’t true – there is still sorrow, hardships and joy in our lives, same as anyone. Some days we may falter in our faith, others we stand in awe of our blessings. That’s life. No matter who we are. As the story weaves in and out of the frightening realities Kate faces, the ultimate message Bylin imparts is for her characters to choose joy and to ask why we are a part of something.

Until I Found You does struggle to find its footing. There is too much emphasis on the physical attraction between the leads (in my opinion though I understand the importance of it), pacing seems to rush, slow then rush again. Regardless, looking beyond the obvious, the story is one that needed to be told. It’s messy (in a good way), complicated and in its unique way, poignant. The characters face internal struggles that aren’t always resolved as they should be – Nick because he’s made a promise to faithfully keep to a yearlong sabbatical while he grows in his faith and Kate because she won’t let go of her idea of “perfect” – which is part of the beauty of the story. Just as this cover design “feels” authentic, an intimate moment of love in its truest form, this story is an intimate portrait of what Christianity in its purist form can look like. It may take a while to find this story, but when I did, I thought this was a lovely story full of promise.

Title: Until I Found You
Author: Victoria Bylin
Pages: 352
Year: 2014
Publisher: Bethany
Unique, captivating and compelling are the words I use to describe this wonderful novel that has characters almost like real people. Kate Darby and Nick Sheridan are the main focus in the tale that is filled with tension, romance and faith. The past of Nick Sheridan is one he wants to be able to forget in so many ways. Once he becomes a Christian, he makes a vow that is tested when he meets Kate Darby.
Kate is the beloved granddaughter of Leona, who is the sole owner of the local paper. While Leona hopes Kate will take over the family business, there is a story Leona needs to share with her. However, one morning changes are brought to Leona; the ripple effects touch Kate and Nick. Kate wishes she could have the faith her Nonnie (Leona) has, but just cannot seem to bring herself to believe in someone she cannot see or hear. What happens during the whole book will lead readers on an adventure that is sure to captivate the heart and mind.
As I turned page after page, the tension between Kate and Nick was very palpable as their choices always came back to their beliefs, which weren’t the same. The vow Nick had made and the life he had led, which is now radically different, gives him a certain understanding of the worldly temptations that Kate is facing. Yet, he knows that Kate must make her own choices. The frustration Nick feels, I believe, many can relate to. When we see someone choosing a path that can be hurtful to them, but know they have to make their own mind up, is very hard to endure. Praying for them helps no doubt about it, but the heart is broken and people hurt deeply as they realize only God has the power to influence someone to choose Him.
Believers know in order to have a lifetime marriage to their husband or wife, there needs to be a foundation of beliefs that are the same. Life can be so hard and if the hearts aren’t together in the foundation, the road to “until death do us part” is certainly not filled with roses. There are times where there are thorns. I can testify that if my husband and I weren’t believers and had made a decision before marriage that divorce is never an option, with all we have been through we would not be married today 26 years later.
The author does a fantastic job of showing how the older generation needs to pass on to the next their past regardless of what it holds as it is a way to show God’s hand in their life. Also, depicted is how hard it is really to find someone who is willing to make a lifelong commitment to God first then to another person. Finally, the choice we all have to make is to go God’s way or the way of the world which is at odds with each other and constantly pulling for our devotion. This is a very well written novel!
My rating is 5+ stars.

It felt like deja vu when I picked up the latest novel Until I Found You, from author Victoria Bylin. When I first began writing in high school I had written a story that began much in the same aspect as this one did but that is all the similarities between the two. It took me back almost 35 years but with a fondness for great romance that Victoria shares in this one. Kate Derby is heading to help her grandmother who is recovering from a stroke in California. On a rain slicked highway, Kate loses control of her car when she steers clear of a giant condor on the road in front of her. Unfortunately this particular stretch of highway doesn't have guard rails in place to keep the drivers from going over the cliff. Kate is lucky when her car is stopping from a two hundred foot plunge by a set of trees but it doesn't seem like it will hold the weight much longer.

When Nick Sheridan it out for a drive on his Harley, he notices that a car has gone over the side on the road. Calling for help, Nick knows that the precarious situation with Kate will not last long enough for help to arrive. He proceeds to climb down the embankment and manages to free her from the car at just the moment the branches break lose and send the car plummeting below. Thinking she might have an opportunity to salvage the effects of her personal items from the car later, the car suddenly explodes. It shakes Kate up more than she realizes what her fate could have been had Nick not rescued her in time.

Nick has made a vow to God that for the next year, he will refrain from dating in order to keep his life in check and provide him a much needed break from bad decisions from his past. Only he didn't expect to fall for Kate. Now he will need more than prayers to God to help him keep his commitment. He needs time to ensure himself that Kate even follows the same standards he has set in his walk of faith. She is driven in her career in advertising but has taken a leave of absence to help care for her grandmother and run the local paper until she can figure out what to do. But it seems no matter what she believes is the right choice, she struggles with coming to terms with a faith she sees in Nick and her grandmother that has her longing for more than what this life has to offer.

I received Until I Found You by Victoria Bylin compliments of Bethany House Publishers and Christian Fiction Blog Alliance for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable review and the opinions expressed here are strictly my own. I love how true to life Kate's struggle is. To wonder what she should do as opposed to what feels right on the inside, wanting to care for her ailing grandmother and resolving her feelings for Nick. It seems to Kate she must choose one or the other. She can't afford the care her grandmother needs running the local paper, and while her advertising job will pay the bills, it won't be close to her grandmother or Nick. The choice won't be easy but it will lead her to the home, God has always planned for her. I easily rate this one a 5 out of 5 stars and can't wait for more from Victoria Bylin in the near future. She is on my must watch list!

Until I Found You by Victoria Bylin is a story brimming with potential that sadly fell short. I loved the premise of two people with broken pasts discovering hope, redemption, and a second chance. It is something many readers can relate to, but the author made it unique by comparing Kate’s journey with that of the California Condors. I enjoyed learning about these interesting birds that I had previously known nothing about.

However, try as I might, I struggled to connect with the main characters, especially Kate. I understood why she fell for Nick, but I failed to see what drew him to her. In their first encounter, Kate jumps to thoughts of him and a future, even when she’s supposed to be in shock after just surviving a near-death experience. It didn’t get better from there. Throughout the story, Kate’s affection for Nick felt more like an unhealthy idolization than love, and unfortunately this opinion remained to the end. Even her “epiphany” or decision to follow Christ came across more as something she had to do to hold on to Nick rather than a true and heartfelt decision.

For the most part, I liked Nick. Granted, he had issues (don’t we all!), but they felt genuine and so did his turn around. His faith also seemed sincere probably due to the fact he made his decision months prior to Kate entering the picture. That being said, his level of emotional and romantic involvement with her, despite knowing she didn’t share his beliefs, disappointed me. After Kate’s supposed turn of heart, Nick made a big deal of needing to step back and let her figure things out for herself. His brother also warned him of the importance of allowing Kate space to first fall in love with Christ and then Nick. Nonetheless, he didn’t back away. If he had, Kate’s profession of faith might have felt more authentic. As is, this novel was one of those rare cases where, at the end, I wanted the main characters to part ways and not end up together.

Kate’s grandmother, the condors, and quaint Meadows kept me intrigued enough to make Until I Found You good for a one-time read. Romance fans, as well as anyone interested in learning about North America’s largest land bird might enjoy picking up a copy of this book.

DESCRIPTION : Finding each other was only the beginning . . .

When Kate Darby swerves off a mountain road to avoid hitting a California condor, she ends up trapped in her car, teetering on the edge of a cliff. Terrified, she breathes a prayer that changes her life.

It's Nick Sheridan who comes to Kate's rescue. Nick is handsome and confident, and he seems to develop a habit of rescuing her, but Kate is in town only until her grandmother recuperates from a stroke. She's not planning to get involved with one of the locals.

Nick is a reformed veteran of life in the fast lane, a new Christian, and a travel writer. When he sees a car dangling on the edge of a cliff, the daredevil in him jumps into action. He doesn't expect to be swept off his feet by the car's occupant. He's made a vow--no dating for a year--but keeping that vow is going to be a lot more difficult now that he's met Kate Darby. . . .

MY REVIEW: I'm not sure exactly what I was expecting from this story, but I felt it dragged in some places and emotionally touched me in others. I really liked Nick. He seemed a great character who upon his conversion began to change. He is always there for Kate no matter how long it has been since she gets in contact or how many times she cancels their plans. He loves her that much. He is always there for her, no matter what.

I didn't like Kate. She seemed to always put herself first in her relationship with Nick as well as in other aspects of her life. I really can't understand why she kisses him when they are together, yet she refers to him as " just a friend." She didn't seem to gradually become more stable either. It's like it happened all in one nanosecond. I found her character distant and hard to understand.

I found the information on the condors fascinating, and I so loved Kate's grandmother,Leona.

The story itself didn't draw me in, but I will be the first to admit this isn't the first contemporary Christian fiction book about which I had mixed feelings. If you like contemporary romance stories, you will probably love this one. It was on okay read for me.

This is a story that I had actually somewhat read the description. I knew it was about a man that had sworn off dating for a year, but meets a girl. It sounded cute. More than anything, it was the cover that pulled me into this book, though. Isn't it pretty and springy?!

Nick is a "bad boy", turned "good boy" kind of guy. Due to the drastic turn his life has taken, he promised himself and God that he wouldn't date for a year. I liked him. He's trying hard to honor his promise. I DO think he could have made it easier on himself by not putting himself in certain situations, but mostly, I felt he was trying.

Kate, unfortunately, didn't win me over. She knows about the promise Nick has made, and yet she still asks him to "cuddle" at one point in the story, because she's had a rough day. ((sigh)) I have little tolerance for women who don't respect a man trying to stay pure and honor promises.

The highlight of the story, for me, was Leona. She is Kate's grandmother, and through letters, we learn a little about her past life. Condors are a large part of the story, too. They're ugly creatures, in my opinion, so I'm glad there are people out there willing to look out for them! ;)

There was a great deal of theological differences of opinions between me and the characters. Especially when it comes to salvation, I think the story left room for a lot of confusion with those who don't know what the Bible teaches or are new to the Christian life.

Overall, this is a cute story, and I truly believe most fans of Christian fiction will love it!

First, a confession – I did what we’re never supposed to do. I judged a book by its cover. I’ve never read anything by Victoria Bylin, but the cover of her new book got me. It was just so whimsical, like a piece of one of those adorable Pinterest engagement photos, radiating hope and optimism. And in the case of Until I Found You – I’m so glad I did!

There’s Nick Sheridan, a man trying to leave behind the disaster he’d made out of his life and walk in the newness of a relationship with Christ. Then there’s Kate Darby, a woman headed into disaster trying desperately, fearfully, to hold onto what little control she can wrest out of the world. Add in a loving Grandmother and, believe it or not, a few California Condors and you have the makings of a story that turns out to be surprisingly poignant and packs quite a spiritual punch.

There’s plenty of sizzle between Nick and Kate as she longs to find security in him and he fights his attraction for her in order to point her to the only Source of security that will never fail her. In setting up this conflict, the author does a masterful job of illustrating how easy it is to put faith in things that fade. With all the spiritual heavy lifting going on, the story nevertheless wasn’t too weighed down, but instead moved along at a nice pace and came with the requisite happy ending that was truly joyful.

Altogether maybe not a light read, but very satisfying, and I’ll definitely be looking for more from Victoria Bylin, no matter what the cover looks like!

Until I found you
Victoria Bylin
Bethany House

Kate has only returned to the little town of Meadows to help her grandmother recover from a stroke, and doesn't expect to stay for long. Being rescued by the handsome Nick was not part of the plan. Then again, neither was almost dying when her car goes over the side of the mountain when she swerves to avoid a Californian Condor. Meeting Nick makes for some interesting changes in Kate's life, and soon she is trying to juggle more than she can cope with, while trying to find a balance between work, family and faith.

Until I Found You is an interesting book. It is a Christian contemporary romance, with realistic, annoying, human, loveable characters. At times I felt the book was slow, which is strange considering it opens with a pretty dramatic car crash and continues with plenty more crashes, fires and high speed chases. I also struggled with the writing style, which at times seemed overly dramatic, cliched and told a lot more than it showed. However, Until I Found You is also clever and tells of the real struggle we humans have in accepting and understanding God and what it means to give control to Him, as well as dealing with our own pasts, mistakes, choices and desires. I liked the use of the symbolism, especially the character Eve, and the end quarter of the book was particularly strong, I thought. Overall, a challenging, but enjoyable book.

As much as I wish I loved contemporary fiction as much as I love historical, I don’t.

In all truth, I wanted to read this book based on the cover alone, which is beautiful. However, the story within did not capture me the way the cover did, and I did not finish this book.

I liked the premise of the story, where Nick heroically rescues Kate from the edge of a cliff. They meet in one of the most precarious situations possible, both in survival mode, trying not to panic in the face of possible death.

But the things I didn’t like overshadowed this promising premise. There was too much telling going on, when I wanted to be shown what was happening. The characters’ backstories were revealed prematurely, leaving me without the anticipation of learning more about their pasts. And the flow of the story was slowed by the detailed history about condors.

Unfortunately, this story fell flat for me. It just wasn’t something that resonated with me. For readers who love contemporary novels, this may be something you enjoy.

Kate Darby is returning to her small home town to care for her grandmother when her car goes over a cliff. She is rescued by the handsome Nick Sheridan, a freelance journalist employed by her grandmother at the Clarion, the weekly town newspaper.

Like many good novels, Until I Found You works on several levels. It’s a story of two people searching for love in spite of the fact they’ve been burned before (to the point where Nick has actually committed not to date for a year. And it’s six months until the end of the year).

It’s also the story of two people searching for faith, and trying to find the life they are meant to live. I particularly liked the Christian element of the novel—it felt real. Nick and Kate are both flawed characters with histories, characters searching for they want out of life, and finding the answers aren’t easy.

Although Victoria Bylin isn’t a debut author, this is her first full-length novel, and her first contemporary (her previous books have been shorter Love Inspired historical romances). I’ve found that not all authors adapt to the longer form novel, but Victoria Bylin has done an excellent job in developing the combination of plot and subplot needed for a longer novel. I’ll look forward to reading more of her work.

This was a totally amazing book. The characters were so real, so much so, you felt like you were part of the story. The struggles, very real. The journey, uplifting.

Nick was a new Christian. His past life in the fast lane, living for the moment, living for himself, changed when he had an encounter with God. Now, he's like a night in shining armor. Putting others first. Treating people with respect. Swoon worthy.

Kate was scared of not being in control. When she had a car accident that left her dangling over the side of a mountain, she called out to God, assuming he was real, but not knowing for sure. God sent a knight in shining armor, Nick, to rescue her. The attraction, chemistry, between them was instant. But, for totally different reasons, they both fought it. Nick, more than Kate, due to his vow of not making any major like changes for a year.

Nick, determined to treat Kate with respect, putting her needs first, was an absolute dream. Kate, determined to be in control of her life, depending only on herself, was likable, but a little frustrating at times. The journey they took was fantastic, moving, eye opening. You just have to read the book to understand. And my favorite, in any book, an epilogue.

Nick and Kate get off to a rather interesting–and heart-pounding–start when an accident on the side of a cliff nearly takes Kate’s life. I always love a good romance novel hero, and Nick certainly fits the bill when he rescues Kate from the car before it heads over the cliff. From that point on, Nick and Kate’s relationship is a series of its own valleys and hills, many of which have rocky cliffs at one place or another. The romance has a very touch-and-go feel. Just when you think Nick and Kate are getting closer, something happens that sets them back.

Until I Found You is the first novel I’ve read by author Victoria Bylin, though she’s written a half dozen or so, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The novel is a sweet story that draws parallels between trendy, career-driven living and a small town, relationship-driven lifestyle. It will likely resonate with younger readers like myself, who often find themselves making choices between career and family, and older readers like Leona, the ailing grandmother who looks watches the younger generation with both love and confusion.

Until I Found You by Victoria Bylin
I really enjoyed this book. Victoria Bylin is a new author to me, but I plan to find more of her books. I found her style of writing to be fun, full of faith and realistic. You are sure to fall in love with the storyline and characters. Nick Sheridan comes to the rescue of Kate Darby more than once. He is not proud of his past as a bestselling author, but as a new Christian has the chance to save Kate’s grandmothers newspaper and write about the important things. Kate puts her career on hold to help her grandmother Leona when she has a stroke. Nick may be her hero but wants so much more. I was intrigued by all the information on Leona’s beloved condor’s. I give Until I Found You 5 stars and highly recommend it to anyone that enjoys Christian, contemporary and romance fiction

I want to thank the author Victoria Bylin and publisher Bethany House for bringing good clean Christian books like this one to readers like me. I would also like to thank The Book Club Network Inc. for providing me with this book in exchange for my honest review.

Kate first meets Nick when her car runs off a dangerous turn on a highway and he rescues her. Nick, a former bad boy and new Christian, has made a promise not to date for a year.

Kate's grandmother, Leona, has suffered a stroke and is unable to speak. Since her grandparents practically raised her, Kate goes back home to help Leona recuperate. Nick works at the newspaper Leona owns, therefore he and Kate end up spending time together. Nick likes everything about Kate, but doesn't want to get serious about her due to his promise to God and the fact that Kate is not a believer.

Over the course of 6-7 months, Kate has to find her own way to God, learn to trust Him, and not let someone or something be substituted for Him. Meanwhile, Nick has to continue to grow in his faith and become a stronger Christian. Hardest of all, he has to practice patience and let Kate learn things for herself without interfering.
