I'm not a big fan of Amish fiction but I do occasionally sample one that's a bit different. The style of this story reminded me of a storyteller sitting down by the fire and telling the story of the life of one Amish Cradle. At first I didn't know if I'd continue the story or not. But the main character engaged my sympathy and attention and I read on. The story of a cradle made for one baby but used in successive families was very touching. And each family had a deeply moving story. So yes, I do recommend The Amish Cradle. Not just to fans of Amish stories but to anyone who enjoys a moving story of real life not just amid the Amish.
Short sweet story of love and loss and faith in God... that being said this book seriously needed better editing... several instances of the names of the characters being mixed up including the main character Sarah being called Hannah at one point.. one character indicates she is going to put on a fresh pot of coffee and in the next instance she is putting on a fresh cup of coffee on to preparing three cups of coffee to serve.. these mistakes were just a bit off-putting.. in addition, while there isn't a defining time that this takes place in, the way the story is told it appears it is modern day, but phrases and such just don't seem right. Amish characters using phrases that seem just a little to "English" and modern in discussions among themselves given what I know of their Old World traditions and way of life, and Doctors using terms for conditions that are way old fashioned for the time period... example: telling a character "she is with child" when most doctors would have said 'pregnant' or 'expecting' Will I read another book by this author.. don't know, probably not.
Sarah and Eli were in love. Married young, their greatest hope was for a child. Eli worked in wood and made a beautiful crib for the expected arrival. Sarah was a seamstress and was making a quilt. In her seventh month her baby girl was stillborn. They tried again but for twelve years no results! With the death of Eli, Sarah was very depressed, but woke up one day and decided to be the community matchmaker. She matched many couples and lent the elaborately made crib to them with the promise of returning it for the next couple. Sarah matched Hannah and Levi, who were very much alike herself and Eli. Hannah was a seamstress and Levi made furniture! This is their story! I would recommend this heartfelt story of love, grief and faith!
Eli & Sarah are a young couple deeply in love. The still birth of their only child and Eli's untimely death when Sarah is 30 leaves her unable to move forward until God reveals a plan for her life; that of matchmaker for her community. Sarah makes a match that reminds her so much of she & Eli; will things turn out differently for Levi & Hannah? A few editing errors have names changed around; otherwise an enjoyable read.
This story has so many emotional up's & downs! But their love of God kept them focused & leaning on Him, as well as each other! A warm & strong relationship that they developed carried them through the hardships & leaning on each other & trusting God's plan in their lives. Amazing writing!Very refreshing!
WAY too many deaths in this book. Although it ends on a light note, it is a book that really brings you down. I found it very hard to finish reading. Very surprised at this Author as she usually has very upbeat stories. Just-UGH!
As always, the author has wrote a very heart felt story. The heroine in the beginning story, lives with safest, a sadness that she uses to bring life's hope to others. This is a story that I know will bring a lot of thought to the reader. Wonderful story.
Great love story. This is about a young couple who loved dearly. After losing their baby and her husband, she becomes a match maker. Read about the wonderful life she has.
I loved this book a lot! It touched my heart and caused me to cry. I have experienced the loss of a baby girl many years ago and could relate with Sarah and ....
Worthwhile. They're very few books lately that I have found to be worth my time. The Amish Cradle is the exception. This book captures your heart with each page. It reveals the life journey of it's characters. Their loves, laughter, loss, and faith. The Amish Cradle is worthwhile.
The title deals with a cradle which was built by Eli for their baby that died. This cradle plays a key role in this book. The underlying story deals with young women suffering from miscarriages and their pain in dealing with that. It is a well written book that deals with faith and lose.
This book's storyline was okay. This book's storyline was sad 😞. I liked all the characters in this story. I felt sorry for the characters in this story. The ending was okay.
This is a great quick read. It deals with still births and miscarriages, a topic that we frequently avoid. Sarah is able share her story with Hannah and give her hope.
