Mavis's Forever Christmas: Contemporary Christian Romance (New Neighbor Lane Book 4) Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 68 ratings

Is falling in love only for the very young?

Never married, Mavis, a retired college librarian, has created a new life and new friends for herself near her “adopted” niece Ellie. She has found her anchor by becoming “Auntie” to the children in Ellie’s blended family.

Over a year ago, John lost his wife, who was Mavis's best friend for nearly forty years. Since the funeral, he’s spent the past year traveling in his camper, seeing the country, and trying to figure out this new life without his wife. But when his only daughter Ellie faces complications with a difficult pregnancy, he’s pulled back to her hometown and faces life without his vibrant wife.

Helping Ellie brings Mavis and John close once again, and new feelings and attractions spark. Maybe falling in love isn’t just for the young, but is it right? Or is it a betrayal of his wife or her best friend?

By a Carol Award-winning author, this emotional, small town, family drama will touch your heart. And an adventurous little puppy will make you smile.

"Mavis and John’s love story is full of delightful twists and sweet moments. I love how the real world issues were handled with a loving touch and the characters grew in ways I never saw coming."

"Mavis's Forever Christmas is a sweet, heartwarming, retired couple romance for Mavis and John. I enjoyed watching love bloom as Mavis and John attempted to help a pregnant Ellie slow down and Mavis befriends a stray pup. This well written book just made me feel good as the community continues to build habitat houses and help their neighbors. It always feels like coming home when I get to visit on New Neighbor Lane."

Published for over twenty years, Lyn Cote lives in a cottage on a northwoods lake with her handy husband and entertaining cats.(She likes dogs too. :-) In her everyday life, she is “normal.”

But in her writing life, she demonstrates the classic split personality. She writes two kinds of novels: contemporary Christian romantic suspense and historical Women’s Fiction, Family Sagas. Her masters degree is in American history and she loves researching eras filled with conflict. Lyn's brand "Strong Women, Brave Stories," always includes three elements: a strong heroine who is a passionate participant in her times, authentic historical detail and a multicultural cast of characters.

Her contemporaries focus on heroines faced with real life crises and unexpected changes and also usually includes a multicultural cast of characters. In both types of stories, Lyn celebrates the triumph of both human and divine love. No matter what her heroines and heroes face, they are not defeated.

Mavis's Forever Christmas is a sweet, heartwarming, retired couple romance for Mavis and John. I enjoyed watching love bloom as Mavis and John attempted to help a pregnant Ellie slow down and Mavis befriends a stray pup. This well written book just made me feel good as the community continues to build habitat houses and help their neighbors. It always feels like coming home when I get to visit on New Neighbor Lane.

They were best friend's for more than forty years, then one of the three died. Could the remaining two fall in love and be united in marriage? A stray, pregnant dog appears one stormy night as "aunty" was having a sleepover for two 'sisters'. Aunty was a cat person but the sisters knew about birthing dogs.

What if you've passed your prime? What if you've slipped right past middle age and are heading into your elderly years and have never married nor do you expect to? And what if you suddenly found love for the first time in your life?

Mavis's story is sweet as a decades-long friendship develops into a healthy love connection. I recommend it highly.

I loved this heartwarming romance that developed between Mavis, a retired librarian who never married, and her best friend and retired lawyer, John. They have been best friends including John's wife who died about three years ago. John was traveling across country while grieving for his wife, but decided to come home when he heard from Mavis that his daughter, Ellie, was having complications with her pregnancy. Just before John arrives, a pregnant dog shows up in a thunderstorm and has four puppies in Mavis's bedroom. She had Ellie's daughters for a sleepover so they were there to give Mavis help with the dog. This story was a quick and enjoyable read and I highly recommend it as a clean romance. I received an ARC and this is my voluntary and honest review.

Thought this was a warm, touching story of awakened feelings of love growing from friendship. Recommend this book, especially those who love dogs.

Now retired and volunteering at the things she loves, Mavis also has the joy and privilege to be an honorary aunt to Ellie, the daughter of her best friends. This brings extra duties like sleepovers for Ellie’s children, but the fun is always worth it.

Mavis has concluded that married life will pass her by - but will it?

I had the opportunity to enjoy Book 4 in the New Neighbor Lane series through BookFunnel. These thoughts are my own and are in no way solicited.
