My guest today is Sherri Shackelford, a brand new author! She says she’s a pessimist but I don’t know if I agree. She is optimistic about GIVING AWAY TWO COPIES OF HER FIRST BOOK. So read and then leave a comment. Here’s Sherri:<\/span>

“I\u2019m a pessimist at heart, I can\u2019t help it. When I\u2019m preparing for a new venture, I always ask myself: \u201cWhat\u2019s the worst thing that can happen?\u201d Then I decide if I can live with the consequences.<\/strong><\/p>\n

When my debut novel was published this summer, I knew I had to prepare for bad reviews. You can\u2019t please everyone all the time, and if you have good distribution, then you\u2019re bound to run across someone who doesn\u2019t like your book.<\/strong><\/p>\n

What I didn\u2019t expect, or prepare for, were the good reviews. I was totally flummoxed the first time someone wrote me a fan letter!<\/strong><\/p>\n

In Winning the Widow\u2019s Heart<\/em>, the heroine, Elizabeth Cole, has lived a life of heartache and adversity. She grasped a fragile shred of hope when she married her first husband, and her uncharacteristic bout of optimism proved to be a disaster.<\/strong><\/p>\n

When real love finally enters her life in the form of handsome Texas Ranger, Jack Elder, Elizabeth is unprepared. She\u2019s become so accustomed to expecting the worst, she can\u2019t see the blessing before her.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Many people associated strength with autonomy and independence. There\u2019s another side of strength that\u2019s more subtle and often overlooked: The ability to ask for help.<\/strong><\/p>\n

When we let others help us, we give them a gift. Ralph Waldo Emerson once said: It is one of the beautiful compensations in this life that no one can sincerely try to help another without helping himself. <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Being independent and self-reliant requires strength. Saying \u201cI don\u2019t know\u201d or \u201cI need help\u201d requires strength of spirit<\/em>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

My heroine, Elizabeth, has to find the courage to trust and love again, and let Jack help her.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The next time you\u2019re feeling overwhelmed and your strength is lagging, don\u2019t forget to honor your friends and family\u2014and ask for help. It doesn\u2019t make you weak, it strengthens you and <\/em>those around you.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Thanks, Sherri. I think you were wise to prepare for the worst. Some readers think authors have no feelings OR some readers are just not very sensitive about others feelings. If you don’t like a book, why get nasty about it?

I’ve had my share of bad reviews. But I have learned to ignore the nasty ones. Some people don’t realize that not every book is meant for every reader. <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
