I decided to join a poetry group<\/a> on Goodreads.com. I was so taken with this poem, “Mother Gone” that I asked the poet, Sydney Halet, for permission to share it here. She graciously agreed. Here’s “MOTHER GONE.”<\/span><\/p>\n

MOTHER GONE<\/p>\n

I hear your voice rippling through
\nThe stilled pools of my past youth;
\nIt echoes in the caverns
\nOf my half remembered dreams;
\nIt calls me back again
\nTo yesterday\u2019s careless joys
\nWhen my world was young and green.<\/p>\n

I hear your voice whispering to
\nMy secret heart of hearts,
\nUrging me to come away
\nTo a time when I was young,
\nAnd spring flowered everywhere,
\nIn sunshine and in shade,
\nFor me to wander through.<\/p>\n

I hear your voice calling me
\nIn tones of warmth and love,
\nSinging in my memory
\nAs only a mother can,
\nAnd I\u2019ll come to you again
\nWith outstretched arms
\nWhen my winter passes by.<\/p>\n

I was really touched by so many of Sydney’s word pictures and sensory touches, especially the references to her mother’s voice. I recall so well my mother’s voice and then the image of running to mother with outstretched arms. If you still have your mother, give her a hug. Mothers and daughters, one of the closest relationships in life. Thank you, Sydney, for a beautiful and evocative poem.–Lyn<\/span><\/p>\n
