This is the last blog post this year honoring mothers and daughters in May. Virginia Archer occasionally sends me poems and I asked her to send me a few honoring her mother. I chose, “Mama Was.”\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

Mama\u00a0 Was<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

Mama was a country girl<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
…living most of her life on the farm.<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
She tried to live in such a way<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
to never caused anyone harm.<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

Mama was a private person<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
but you couldn’t ask for a better friend.<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
She never turned away anyone in need<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
…no matter what it cost in the end.<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

Mama was a good\u00a0 provider<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
…making sure we had plenty to eat.<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
Even though we had very little money<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
she often gave is special treats.<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

Mama was a loving mother,<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
and it was seen in the way she lived.<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
Not one to give out hugs and kisses,<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
but we felt the love she would give.<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

Mama was a faithful Christian,<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
…serving God in her quiet way…<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
showing more by her actions<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
than by what she had to say.<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

Mama was sorely missed,<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
and has been since she passed away.<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
Her Father\u00a0 called her home in ’76,<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
on a Saturday before Mother’s Day.<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
