Can\u2019t Buy Me Love: Bellamy Hillman and Character Arcs:<\/strong><\/p>\n

A character arc <\/strong><\/p>\n

is a crucial part of writing a novel \u2013 it\u2019s how your character changes as the story unfolds.<\/p>\n

New destination wedding<\/em> series<\/strong><\/p>\n

In my upcoming e-novella “Can\u2019t Buy Me Love” (May 2015) that launches my destination wedding series, my heroine Bellamy Hillman desperately needs to embrace her character arc. At the beginning, Bellamy isn\u2019t sure who she is \u2013 well, except that she\u2019s evidently going to marry Reid Stanton in a one-of-a-kind Manhattan destination wedding. And there are times she\u2019s not even sure how she got to be so lucky to be Reid\u2019s fianc\u00e9e.<\/p>\n

impulsive choices<\/strong><\/p>\n

Bellamy\u2019s life overflows with impulsive choices that have caused her to end up exactly where she never planned on being. Her happily ever after is more than she ever imagined \u2013 but does she deserve it?<\/p>\n

And then one more choice \u2013 the grandest of all impulsive actions \u2013 causes life to fall apart. Bellamy\u2019s at the end of her rope \u2013 and there\u2019s not even enough left to tie a knot in it and hold on. But even more than that, Bellamy\u2019s at the end of herself.<\/p>\n

New Beginning<\/strong><\/p>\n

And that\u2019s when Bellamy begins to discover who she is. She\u2019s not just a bunch of impulsive choices. She has abilities and strengths that make her valuable. They\u2019ve been there all along \u2013 not because someone else said so, but because God said so. And God trumps all her self-doubts.<\/p>\n

is not the Bellamy we see at the end of “Can\u2019t Buy Me Love.” She changes. She understands herself better. Understands her fianc\u00e9 better. And, most importantly, she understands God better.<\/p>\n

And isn\u2019t this one of the deeper purposes of life? I\u2019m no longer talking about an imaginary character like Bellamy. Let\u2019s talk real life for a moment. You and I experience character arcs too. We go through events \u2013 both planned and unplanned \u2013 and become who we were meant to be in God\u2019s eyes, in God\u2019s plan. We stop being who we think we\u2019re supposed to be and become who we\u2019re meant to be.”–Beth<\/p>\n

Very interesting, Beth. Impulsive choices–I’m not prone to them but I’ve watched this in others. I was especially interested in your heroine’s name, Bellamy. I’d never seen it as a feminine name. Interestingly I used it as a man’s name in my novella-“Where Honor Began.”<\/span><\/p>\n
