  1. Hi Rose,

Thanks so much for sharing. (I love yoga, too!)

I think self-identity is a very nebulous thing… It's hard to separate the person from every aspect of their being (what they look like, what they do, how they act, who they are in relationship with, etc.). And I don't think we necessarily need to do that. But a balanced, healthy understanding of self (that goes beyond the obvious) is priceless. Hard to come by, but priceless.

    Blessings to you!

    Warmly,
    Nicole

  2. Very interesting, Rose. I wonder if that woman thought that a modern woman should be like a man-defined by his job.

People introduce me as the author. I've thought of having it tattooed on my forehead (NOT) to save them the trouble!

  3. Nicole,

I love this post. So many women I know either define themselves by their looks or job titles. A good friend of mine got very aggitated with me when I told her she was more than her job. She actually argued that it wasn't a true statement…her entire identity revolved around her job title.

In my thirties (a decade ago!), I decided that I needed to be more well rounded, so I replaced shopping and movies with new activities (like yoga), hobbies and different genre books to fill some spare time. Not that I don't shop or see movies, they just aren't my main focus. At least now I have other interests to discuss and help define the person I'm becoming.

Don't know if that really answers your question or not, though!

    Rose
