How It Works-Being an Author–What is An Author Brand? — 4 Comments

  1. Janet,
Since you ID yourself with your popular series, ask yourself what sets Dry Creek apart from other small towns?

I most use my brand when my agent is marketing to a new editor–it encapsulates what she/he will be buying.

  2. Renee,
The most important part is that it's not about you–it's about your readers. What kind of reader enjoys your books?
A woman in a small town or big city? A woman who likes to fantasize about living in another time another place? At a new restaurant would she order something safe or try something unknown? What kind of shoes would she wear, clothing?
Ask yourself those questions and see what you come up with.

  3. Lyn, Great post. I haven't figured out the words yet, but my brand is the Dry Creek books (I have a certain type of story that works in the series and it is, I believe, what people have come to associate with my name). I need to give the whole thing more thought so thank again for the post.

  4. Hi Lyn,

Really interesting post. I would love to figure out my brand, but it keeps slipping just out of reach. After eight books I should have a handle on this. However, I will persist! Thanks for the nudge. 😉

    ~Renee~
