Publisher LaShaunda Hoffman & How She Learned to Be Strong — 15 Comments

  1. Hi Lyn, I hope it isn't too late to comment. I loved the interview with LaShaunda. What an inspiring story about her mom.

Thanks for sharing that with us.

My mom was very instrumental in my writing career. She always believed in me. But the most interesting thing she did was she typed or processed all my early manuscripts on a pc computer. I wrote by hand and didn't know how to use a computer. She went to the local junior college and learned and processed all my manuscripts for me.

It was a special time when a manuscript was finished. I'd fly up to her house at Lake Tahoe and we'd spread the pages all over the floor and proofread them. so fun.

She encouraged me for many years and I feel her encouragement from heaven now.

    Thanks again for sharing.

  2. LaShaundra, how lovely to hear about your mom…and what poignant words they are, to me, because I lost my own mom October 17th, and from the time I was a little girl, she was sure that I would become a writer. Her last full sentence to me was, "You know what's so bad about this? I never got to finish you last book, and I'll never get to read your new ones." To be thinking about that while she was slipping away just emphasized how much loving support she'd given me all these years.

Best wishes to you in all your endeavors, laShaundra.

  3. Wow I checked the message before I left work yesterday and didn't get a chance last night. So I want to say thank you so much for all who posted.

What wonderful mothers and sister you all have. My mom is my best friend and I pray one day my daughter will say the same.

You guys have blessed me with your comments that I would like to give out a SORMAG goody bag to one reader. I forgot to mention that in the blog. Its a bag with a few books and other goodies.

I let Lyn do the honor of choosing our two winners.

    Thanks again 🙂

  4. LaShaunda, your mom changed the world by changing her own life. Wonderful inspiration.

I learned God's concept of how He is strong in our weakness by watching my very fragile mother at the end of her life. Even though severely mentally ill, she did to the least of these. She went around her nursing home getting water, feeding other patients, or getting a nurse when they needed it. I learned strength is in the giving not the taking from my mom.

  5. Hi, LaShaunda. I loved the story about your mom.

My mom had eight kids in eleven years and we lived in a two bedroom farmhouse until her sixth child was born, at which point we added on and then lived in a THREE bedroom farmhouse.

And you know what? She always made us feel like we were a blessing. That is one gifted woman. 🙂

  6. LaShaunda!!! Wonderful blog, girl, and very inspiring!! You are blessed to have such a great and supportive relationship with your mom. Regrettably, my mom and I didn't get along, so the "strong woman" who encouraged me was my little sister who supported and loved me like no one ever has. I began writing my debut novel A Passion Most Pure when I was 12, and my sister Kate (then 9), would beg me to read it to her every night. Today, true to her nature, she has become an incredibly supportive mom herself and still one of my biggest cheerleaders today.

    Hugs,
    Julie

  7. LaShaunda, your mother is an inspiration and very strong to keep a positive attitude with chronic illnesses. God bless her and thanks for sharing her story.

My mother believed in me, too. She was getting up in years when I told her I was writing a novel. She said she hoped to live long enough to see me published. She didn't, but I'll always treasure her assumption that it would happen.

  8. Hi LaShaunda,
My mother inspired me because she raised three children and always provided for us, even when my parents got divorced. You know how mothers can sometimes be your best friend? I always felt like she was that for me. I think I had great values and teenage years because of her.
    Thanks for this post, LaShaunda.

  9. A Navy vet!!

    I'm former Army!!

    Great story.

My mother is the prayer warrior of our family and everyone calls her for prayer!!

  10. Hi LaShauda,

So nice reading about your mama. Mothers are so special, aren't they?

My mother believed every woman needed to have a profession. Because of her encouragement, I became a medical technologist, which was my day job for a number of years.

Like you, LaShaunda, I also had a burning desire to write. Eventually that dream came true. Unfortunately, my mom died before I published, but I know she's smiling down from heaven and proud of the work I'm doing now.

Congrats on your success, LaShaunda, and thanks for your service to our country!

  11. My mother was only 16 when I was born and she inspired me in so many ways, but most importantly in my faith and my love for reading.

    Blessings,

  12. LaShaunda,

What a wonderful story about your mother! So sweet.

My mother inspired me by going back to school to become an RN. And she always taught me I could do anything I wanted when I grew up. 🙂

An interesting note. The type nursing my mother ended up doing for many years was working with dialysis patients. 🙂

Thanks for entering me in your generous giveaway!

  13. Thanks Lyn,

For having me here. I always stop by to read about other strong women.
