Lyn Reviews Author Sharon Dunn’s Guard Duty
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I’ve read other mysteries by Sharon Dunn, such as Cow Crimes and the Mustang Menace
and Death of a Six-Foot Teddy Bear
.
I loved her wit and zany humor. Now she’s writing for Love Inspired Suspense and her tone is different in Guard Duty. This book is more serious and emotional.
I liked the heroine Valerie Salgado and the hero Trevor Lewis. I think this book is part of a Love Inspired continuity series, so don’t be surprised when a major plot thread is introduced toward the end but not tied up. Harlequin likes to do these 6 book series where each book is written by a different author and are connected by place and a theme. In this case, the series is TEXAS K-9 UNIT.
Valerie has taken custody of her toddler niece and a killer is after Valerie, thinking she can identify her for a killing. FBI agent Trevor is there trying to find another killer who is from the same Texas town.
The suspense aspect was believable and the story moved well. However, I miss Sharon Dunn’s light touch of humor. However, I realize it wouldn’t fit this type of story.
So I must accept Sharon’s new kind of mystery!
