What do you think about this? — 9 Comments

  1. I think it's great that all of you are venturing or interested in this new digital way of reading. I think that the ereaders will continue improve and in the next few years they'll be just like cell phones!

  2. Yes I just bought a ereader! I got the Kindle 3 and I love it. I find myself loving to read even more now that I have it.

  3. I got a nook for Mother's Day this year and I love it! I compared it to the Sony reader at Best Buy and opted for the nook. What I like about it: I can down load books from my home any time of day or night, nook allows you to lend some books to other nook owners, and I have run out of room for books! I still love my autographed books and will get them whenever I can and will buy books not available for e-readers. Every Friday B&N offers a free book and they have a lot of discounted books.

    Happy reading!

  4. Lyn from the research I did both in australia will take computer file. the sony ereader may be better for aussies as it will take pdf, and other formats easier than the kindle.
Also you can buy at different places where the Kindle its more just amazon at this stage.
I just cant afford the cost.
Oh and on the ipad they sell books but not out of america so its useless for that function in australia also.

  5. Hi Lyn,
I think that this is a good idea. Seriously, I researched and researched as much as I possibly could before really considering a Kindle. I ended up deciding that a Kindle was worth my while, lol. So for my 18th birthday this year, my dad and stepmom got it for me. I definitely don't regret it. Like Pam said, I went for it because of portability and I figured it was a really good investment for college. I can have as many books as I have at home (well…no, not THAT many loL!!) here and in something smaller than the size of a normal book. Plus, I can have a wide variety. Right now I have my Kindle, the book I was reading before I came, and another book I'm supposed to be reading for a book club, lol! But I wouldn't want to bring a ton of books, you know?

So, yes I think for certain circumstances/people e-readers make perfect sense. If you're not toally invested, don't do it. You might be upset afterwards. It's definitely an investment you want to be sure about because how many times have we bought a book and it's gotten lost in the piles and piles around the room? Then it might never get read. So, don't do it unless/until you're sure about it : ) That's my advice!

Juanita, if you want to know more about a Kindle let me know. I don't mind sharing and I know answers to most if not all of the questions you pointed out. Maybe we can email or something : )
    Talk to you soon, Lyn!

  6. I don't know enough about Kindle, as to how they work, how many books you can read on it, or do you download a book and then read it on the Kindle. I have heard of them, but never saw one. Am sure books are less expensive for my pocketbook. Wondered if reading them that way if the words were larger or smaller. Something to check out and see. I have read books via cassette years ago when they were out and about when I drove from Salem to Portland and back when I worked up there. Would like to learn more about them. Juanita W

  7. Both of you bring up good points as to why digital is moving ahead so fast. I'm kind of waiting to see how the different formats shake out. Kind of like waiting to buy a VCR when Beta and VHS were duking it out. Oh, dear that ages me!

  8. I think Best Buy is smart to do this. Last summer I wandered into BB & my son & I played with a Nook for awhile. We put it down because an e-reader is not a priority, but a good Christmas gift.
I'm anxious to compare the two side by side now– whichever device people have, they love, so I haven't been able to evaluate from others' opinions. Each is loyal to their own brand, but I believe being able to handle them side by side like this is what consumers want before making their decisions.
E-readers are here to stay. Books will never go away, so I'm not about to ditch them, and now I'm buying to complete sets of authors' works and to have first editions and lovely hardbacks. But I'm going digital for accessibility, packability, and decluttering.
    Hope you're well.

  9. I would love one for Christmas funny I just did a report of the availability of e-readers in Australia.
    We can get an international Kindle from America down side is having to order from Amazon America it costs about $240 aussie which I cant afford;
But we do have the sony e-reader now its $299 and was released here this month only its sold out and on back order. you can download files from your computer.
Why I would like one is that I get alot of pdf files for review now as many of the publishers wont send to australia anymore. it would be easier to read from a kindle than the computer.
So I want wont but I know I wont get one yet.
