Lyn Reviews Author Deborah Raney's Latest, After All

I had read the first book Almost Forever in Deborah Raney’s Hanover Falls series. The series begins with a fire that kills 5 firefighters and the three books follow various families as they mourn, try to heal and survive these losses.

After All is the final book. I immediately connected with Susan, the director of the Hanover Falls homeless shelter and the widow of one of the firefighters who lost his life when the shelter was destroyed by fire.

After All could be called the Book of Secrets Revealed. Susan begins to discover her husband’s secrets and at the same time feels drawn to another firefighter. Can she love again?

Deborah Raney’s style is deceptively simple but draws a reader deep into the lives of her characters. I highly recommend this series and especially the final book, After All!

Thanks so much for all the comments. Valri, I have a soft spot in my heart for firefighters too––especially after doing the research for this book and talking to many firefighters and their families.

I’m glad some of you have enjoyed this series, and others hope to try it. SJOakes, I promise that once you’re past the inciting fire, there are happier moments in the book and I’m a big believer in happily ever afters. I hope you’ll give Hanover Falls a try!

I love book series that follow a group of friends, but getting past the first book, in which five firefighters died. That would be hard. Death coming to young people,–that’s very hard to think about. It does happen, of course. I have to give this more thought.
