Lyn Reviews Nancy Moser’s

Washington's Lady (Ladies of History, #3)Washington’s Lady by Nancy Moser
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was a fascinating first person historical biography of a famous marriage. I learned much about Martha Washington that I hadn’t known and better understood her inablity to discipline her son who paid for it by early death. Anyway as this is our nation’s 250 anniversary you might want to read this to discover why it was said that George Washington was “First in War, First in Peace, First in the Hearts of his countrymen.” And why King George the III said that if he could go back to his plantation after the war, he would be the greatest man in the world. Just compare GW to Napoleon. Mr. Washington didn’t want POWER. He wanted a nation of freedom and honor IMHO.

Lyn Reviews Jennifer Rodewald’s Lake Shore Wandering

booksbylyncote.com Posted on March 15, 2026 by Lyn CoteMarch 15, 2026

Lake Shore Wandering (Redemption Shores #1)Lake Shore Wandering by Jennifer Rodewald
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book was not really what I was expecting. The set up was very different than usual. We have a city slicker hero, who is out to do the heroine wrong in the mountains of Montana. And the heroine’s brother is in on it. I remember driving through Wyoming in the 70s and seeing signs with the words of population: Three. Coming from the Midwest I was used to small farm towns, but the smallest I ever was at was 150. So this was a trip for me too.
I really enjoyed the story. The characters were very vivid, the conflict real. The heroine made a decision I wouldn’t have made, but then I wasn’t heroine. Anyway, I don’t like cliffhanger endings and usually if I find a book that I’ve read is a cliffhanger ,I never go forward. However, this wasn’t a cliffhanger; it was a something different. So I’m not mad at the author, but I won’t go on and buy the next book until I can get a good deal on kindle points. But I would recommend the story, but expect to have to go onto the next story to get the satisfying ending complete. And there are other intriguing characters and plots so Jennifer Rodewald knows how to “catch’ readers. 🙂

Lyn Asks this Month’s Question

booksbylyncote.com Posted on March 9, 2026 by Lyn CoteMarch 4, 2026

I Was Wondering…

why I received so few responses to last month’s question: Why do you love America?

I have to ask, are you tired of me asking you questions?

Maybe it’s time for something new. So I’ve asked you a lot of questions. I’d like to give you the chance to ask me a question. You can ask me anything, but of course, I’ll decide which ones to answer. 🙂 To get your minds working, here are some examples:

  • Why did you start writing?
  • What starts you writing?
  • What is your favorite dessert and include recipe?
  • Why do you live where you do?
  • How did you meet your husband?
  • In book such and such why did your hero or heroine do this?

Do any of these strike a chord with you? And maybe you’re tired of questions. I like a give and take with my readers but if you have a different idea of what you’d like to read in my newsletter or on my blog, post that too!–Lyn

Lyn Reviews Miranda James’ Something Whiskered

booksbylyncote.com Posted on February 12, 2026 by Lyn CoteFebruary 10, 2026

Something Whiskered (Cat in the Stacks #17)Something Whiskered by Miranda James
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

3 1/2 Stars–DANGER: WHEN EDITORS NO LONGER EDIT– I’ve noticed that many NYTime bestselling authors after many books, suffer from this problem. I’ve read this series, love Charlie and his Maine Coon cat Diesel and Helen Louise and Azalea and all the rest of the characters in and around this small southern college town. HOWEVER, this is the first time that at the end that 2 plot twists in the murder mystery were not “tied up.” No explanation of why the culprit would have done these actions or how. That was disappointing because these two twists actually did not “click” with the murderer’s skill set. This happened to Lillian Jackson Braun’s series of THE CAT WHO (Qwilleran) mysteries. They declined until the final book in the series was just a collection of Qwilleran letters and just a whisper of a mystery, a sad end to a wonderful series. I think the publisher thinks–“they’ll sell anyway and every library will buy them so…” So please, Miranda, insist your editor do the edits!

Lyn Asks the February Question

booksbylyncote.com Posted on February 8, 2026 by Lyn CoteFebruary 5, 2026

Now for this month’s question: Why do you love America?

I love America and I love our history–so different from the histories of other nations. No lords, no queens, no emperors–just citizens who have rights and duties to their nation and their God. Our history hasn’t been one of perfect men and women. But of people who have over the years championed freedom and equality. Or that’s how I see it. Do you love our country and why?

Lyn Asks January 2026’s Question

booksbylyncote.com Posted on January 18, 2026 by Lyn CoteJanuary 13, 2026

Well, here’s we are in 2026. Whoo-hoo and all that. 🙂 If you didn’t have a great year in 2025, here’s wishing you a better year. And if 2025 was okay to wonderful, I hope you get the same in 2026. The photo is of my Christmas tree. I named him Holly Jolly and I still have him on my dining table because he makes me smile. Plus in the WI northwoods that attracts winter “snow” tourists, we all keep the Christmas lights up till March! It makes the early darkness more pleasant too.

This month’s question is: Do you have a Bible verse or words of wisdom that you find yourself thinking about often? And why do you think that verse comes to mind so often? Please share. As usual, if your reply is included in my newsletter, I’ll offer you a free ebook.

Finally, I have a new 3-in-1 box set for my The Three Women of Courage series

Lyn Reviews Dominic Luke’s Autumn Softly Fell

booksbylyncote.com Posted on December 27, 2025 by Lyn CoteDecember 27, 2025

Autumn Softly Fell (Brannans Family Saga #1)Autumn Softly Fell by Dominic Luke
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I didn’t know what to expect from this book–it was so intriguing but gentle. A historical about people who seemed very real. At first, I wondered if it would be too much like The Secret Garden but no, that may have inspired it but it didn’t dominate. It read like a steadily flowing river, not a flood if you get my meaning. I will real more by this author.

Lyn Reviews Becky Wade’s MEMORY LANE!

booksbylyncote.com Posted on December 21, 2025 by Lyn CoteDecember 21, 2025

Memory Lane (Sons of Scandal, #1)Memory Lane by Becky Wade
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I guess we never get tired of amnesia in stories. I used it in one of mine, Uncertain Spring, and Becky Wade uses it VERY EXPERTLY in this book. I loved both the hero (who has the amnesia) and the heroine. Very believable conflicts and interesting persons! I also liked the secondary characters, especially the later in life couple. Very sweet second chance at love. I do recommend this book IF you enjoy a well written and compelling contemporary romance.

Lyn Asks the Final Question of 2025!

booksbylyncote.com Posted on December 7, 2025 by Lyn CoteDecember 6, 2025

What’d You Get Me That For?

Now for the story around that provocative first line. That line what my husband always asks me when I give him an unexpected gift. (No, I am not kidding.) The best example I can give is the year the Rubik’s cube became popular. He is a puzzler guy, crosswords, etc so I always gave him something like that every Christmas. So when he opened the box, of course the first words out of his mouth were: “What’d You Get Me That For?” I just looked at him. Because of course, the joke was on HIM. Because it was glued to his fingers for the next two weeks!!!

So now for this month’s question— have you ever gotten or given a present that at first seemed odd but proved to be useful or a blessing? Or have you ever gotten a present that blew your socks off? 🙂 Please share so we can reminisce a little of the holiday in January.–Lyn
