Very interesting, Beth. Impulsive choices–I’m not prone to them but I’ve watched this in others. I was especially interested in your heroine’s name, Bellamy. I’d never seen it as a feminine name. Interestingly I used it as a man’s name in my novella-“Where Honor Began.”

First I must tell you that I am a longtime friend of Lenora Worth but that doesn’t mean I can’t express my assessment of An April Bride.
Lenora writes in a clear voice that is as Southern as she is. The story of Stella and Marshall took me into a Southern society world I don’t know. Stella’s home is called Flower Bend and it’s near the mighty Mississippi River. Lenora’s descriptions of the river, the beautiful gardens, and Stella’s tender emotions enveloped me.
It always surprises me that Lenora can write suspense novels that make me grit my teeth with their fast pace and danger and then she can write a love story that gently takes me on a journey of pain, love and restoration.

“Thank you Lyn for hosting me today. I hope your readers will enjoy my recipe. The story behind which starts three days after I graduated from high school. As an American Field Service exchange student, I went to Italy for three months, living with an Italian family. It was one of the most exciting and scary times of my life. I studied the Italian language for several months prior to leaving the small town where I grew up in the foothills of the Sierra-Nevada Mountains. However, I retained little of the language by the time I boarded a plane to fly from California to Europe. We stopped in New York first and I met other American kids from all over the country who were heading aboard. But none of us were going to the same cities so we said our goodbyes and boarded our respective planes.
I headed to Rome
and was put on a train bound for the town of Fabriano. My Italian family welcomed me with open arms and made me feel comfortable. The daughter, Leticia, spoke English and helped me to communicate while I was in Italy. It was a fun summer and I fell in love with Italy. Before going to this fabulous country I didn’t eat vegetables. I was an average American teen who preferred french-fries and hamburgers to anything green. My Italian mother, Malfalda, coaxed me into trying her baked stuffed zucchini.
Coaxed into it
Amazingly, I loved it. I watched her make the dish several times over the next three months and when I returned to my home in California, I was able to reproduce her recipe. It was simple yet delicious. Over the years I have made adjustments, like adding in Marsala wine to the filling mixture for added flavor.
When my children came along
I tried to coax them into trying the bake stuffed zucchini but no go. My sister-in-law showed me a different way of baking it with only cheese as the topping and my kids ate it. I’m still hopeful one day they will like the bake stuffed zucchini that always reminds me of the summer I spent in Italy.

It was in that I went to my very first art museum. I was too young and ignorant to appreciate the great works of art on display and I hope one day to return to Italy with a deeper appreciation of art.

Baked Zucchini by Terri Reed
Two variations
This is the quick and easy method and the only way I could get my kids to eat zucchini.
1)Heat over to 375. Slice 6 to 10 small, washed zucchini into round slices and place onto a baking sheet. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle a dash of salt over the round pieces then top with shredded Parmesan cheese. Bake for 8 minutes or until the cheese is melted, longer if you want to brown the cheese, however, watch carefully so it doesn’t burn.
Serve as a side dish.
This method is a bit more gourmet-ish and isn’t an exact science. I don’t usually measure because the amounts will vary depending on how many people I’m making this for.
2) Heat over to 375.
Ingredients:
Zucchini (as many or as few as you wish. I usually use 2 medium sized zucchini when its just my husband and I, which yields 2 halves each.
½ white onion diced—more if you are making a larger batch
2 or more cloves of garlic diced-depending how garlicky you want the mixture
1 tb butter or more if you want a richer taste
Marsala wine 1/8 to ¼ cup depending on how much mixture you are making and how prominant you want the flavor of the wine
Herbed breadcrumbs ½ to a cup or more depending how big a batch you are making
Parmesan cheese 2-4oz- or more if needed
Wash and cut off the ends of zucchini. Slice in half lengthwise. Scoop out a thin layer of the middle of each long side to make a channel for the filling. Place onto a baking sheet.
In a saucepan, sauté diced onions and garlic in butter and wine until soft. Mix in the breadcrumbs and cheese until all is coated and soft. Fill each zucchini half with the mixture and bake until hot and zucchini is soft or the topping starts to brown. Serve immediately.”–Terri

In my upcoming release, The Matchmaker’s Match, Lady Amelia Baxley is very involved in prison reform. I noticed, Lyn, that you have a video of Mrs. Elizabeth Fry. Mrs. Fry was a marvelous woman who accomplished much. She is mentioned in The Matchmaker’s Match because Lady Amelia works alongside her to help female prisoners at Newgate Prison. Not only does Lady Amelia involve herself in charitable activities, but for a small fee she finds husbands for young ladies fresh in their Season. Though Lady Amelia lives off an allowance from her brother, as many ladies of the ton did in those days, she likes having the independence of a side job (which was quite scandalous).
A snag occurs in the practical lady’s plans though when Lord Ashwhite meddles in her structured life. While Lady Amelia values her abilities as a source of strength, she has also walled her heart off from love. Lord Ashwhite’s need for her assistance crumbles the emotional fortress she’s built and challenges her to discover a new way to be strong. Her newfound faith and blossoming romance shows Lady Amelia that true strength is not always found in our accomplishments or self-reliance. Since I’m acquainted with the pasty (said with the British ah sound), I was eager to read & share Carol’s mom’s recipe for Cornish pasties. The Cornish miners from Cornwall, a region of the British Kingdom were the inventor of the pasty. Here’s some backstory on this delectable treat.
“The Upper Peninsula of Michigan. In some areas, pasties are a significant tourist attraction,[47] including an annual Pasty Fest in Calumet, Michigan in late June. Pasties in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan have a particularly unusual history. Many ethnic groups adopted the pasty for use in the Copper Country copper mines.[48][49] The pasty has become strongly associated with all cultures in this area, and in the similar Iron Range in northern Minnesota.
Mineral Point, Wisconsin was the site of the first mineral rush in the USA during the 1830s. After lead was discovered in Mineral Point many of the early miners migrated to this south-western Wisconsin area from Cornwall. Those Cornish miners brought their skills working in the deep underground tin mines of Cornwall. They also brought their recipe and appetite for the pasty.” From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pasty “
“My favorite meal growing up was my mom’s Cornish pasties. She knew the perfect blend of meat, potatoes, onion and a touch of rutabaga to tuck inside pockets of the paper-thin crust only she could perfect. Along with this perfect meal in a bundle, my family sat around the kitchen table and listened to Mom’s stories of her dad and two older brothers. They used to wrap their pasties in newspapers and carry them inside their shirts to keep warm on their walk to work in the lead mines near Mifflin in southwestern Wisconsin.
Artists in the kitchen
My mom and her mother were artists in the kitchen. There aren’t many written, precise recipes in their repertoire, I’m afraid. For them, cooking was more a matter of intuition, experience, and just the right feel. My daughter and Mom worked out exact measures for the crust, but I’ll list ingredients for the filling, then just like a good story, you can mix and add and subtract until you find your own perfect blend.
Cornish Pasty Recipe
Crust: Sift 2 cups of all purpose flour and 1 teaspoon salt together; cut 3/4 cup vegetable shortening OR 1/2 cup lard into flour mixture with a fork or wire pastry blender until size of split peas. Add 6 Tablespoons ice water. Refrigerate until ready to roll out.
Filling: Mix together several thinly sliced potatoes, some crumbled, lean ground beef or venison, some onion, rutabaga, salt and pepper to taste.
Roll out thin sheets of the crust. On each sheet, spoon enough of the potato-meat mixture to allow you to fold the crust around it and crimp it closed along the top. Bake at 350 F. until perfect. Enjoy!

Though at times I wanted to shake him, her hero Luke is cute and a good but maddeningly dense. But then aren’t all of us sometimes? He has in his head THE WAY THINGS SHOULD BE. So he completely ignores THE WAY THINGS ARE.
Isn’t that just like the guy next door? 😉
Darcy, our heroine (the girl next door obviously) is not quite as clueless, but she too has her eyes on one thing–paying off her student loans. Tunnel vision. And a fixation on Luke. She didn’t irritate me because she seemed to be more aware and realistic than THE GUY NEXT DOOR.
I hope from the tone of this review you “get’ the tone of the story. It’s not real serious. No one is in danger of death or dismemberment. And it’s written well with characters that kept me opening the book.
Just a couple of young people who need someone to set them straight. A satisfying sweet romance. A good thing!
